Being uniquely positioned, Australia’s climate is influenced by the Pacific, Indian and Southern Oceans, as well as by atmospheric conditions as far south as Antarctica. The hub’s project Extreme events explained is working to develop a deeper understanding of how these large-scale modes of atmosphere and ocean variability impact our climate with a particular focus on the Southern Annular Mode.
