Supporting the National First Peoples Platform on Climate Change
The Indigenous Partnerships team also supports the National First Peoples Platform on Climate Change, which plays a central role in guiding the hub’s work with First Nations communities. The Platform promotes Indigenous-led decision-making, provides strategic advice on co-designed research and engagement and ensures the hub’s climate research reflects Indigenous worldviews, knowledge systems, and cultural authority.
The Platform, supported by the Indigenous Partnerships team, also leads the National First Peoples Gatherings on Climate Change events. These events bring Indigenous leaders and researchers together to shape the national climate science agenda. Gatherings have been held in 2018 (Yorta Yorta Country), 2021 (Gimuy Walubara Yidinji and Yirrigandji Country), and 2024 (Tubba-Gah Country).
