Building momentum
It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through 2025. What’s even more confronting is that we are now closer to 2050 than to 2000. In 2000, we were generating climate projections for the future in 2050, and we are now recording our path halfway along that trajectory. I am encouraged by the great science we are developing to understand our future by 2050 and the climate adaptation being implemented to help us build our resilience.
So far this year, the hub has been filled with momentum and progress, with all our Research Plan 2025 projects now underway. These projects build on the foundation of deep co-design and are already delivering insights to inform Australia’s climate response.
In late May, we held a Synthesis Workshop—a valuable moment to reflect on what we’ve achieved so far and what we still hope to accomplish. As we continue this work, we’re keen to hear how our research is being used. If you’ve drawn on Climate Systems Hub outputs—whether data, products, or advice—to support decision-making in your organisation, we’d love to hear from you.
We’ve also been pleased to see such strong engagement with our webinar series this year. Our recent event on climate tipping points drew over 1,000 live attendees, highlighting the public appetite for clear and trusted science communication. Thank you to all who tuned in.
Looking ahead, we will be taking a short pause on our webinars in June and July to focus on two exciting events. In June, the hub is proud to be supporting the AMOS Conference in Cairns. Then in July, we’ll host the Climate Adaptation 2025 Conference in Perth, bringing together adaptation leaders from around the country. Both events will help foster the kind of partnerships and dialogue that are essential for climate solutions.
As we move into the second half of the year, I look forward to continuing this important work together.
