The Climate Systems Hub, including the Climate Adaptation Initiative, values and commits to strong, lasting, and respectful partnerships with Indigenous Australians. Our approach is guided by the principles of Free, Prior and Informed Consent, and by Indigenous-led and co-designed protocols that ensure our research respects cultural protocols and promotes cultural safety.
Indigenous engagement across the Hub is led by our Indigenous Facilitator Damian Morgan-Bulled, with guidance from the National First Peoples Platform on Climate Change. Together, they help shape the way we work and ensure that Indigenous voices and leadership remain central to our research and activities.
Through these partnerships, the Hub supports:
- co-designed projects with Indigenous communities
- the National First Peoples Gathering on Climate Change (held every two years)
- statements from the Gathering, which capture shared priorities and guidance
- the work of the Indigenous Partnerships Team
These activities provide opportunities for dialogue, collaboration, and shared learning — strengthening climate adaptation through Indigenous knowledge and leadership.
